It’s been a while since my last post. Turns out living on an island can be just as boring as living on the mainland. Unless, of course, you’re going on a deep sea fishing adventure, which is what we did this past weekend.
Since moving here, I’ve been day dreaming about buying a boat and starting a charter fishing business. Only problem is, I have zero knowledge or experience fishing. I’ve never even been fishing. Still, it seemed like a good idea, so we got a few friends together and booked our first deep sea fishing adventure.
The trip started off great. We left in early afternoon with clear blue skies and calm sea. Just a bunch of friends laughing and having fun, getting ready to do some fishing. That feeling didn’t last long, though. At least 4 of us became nauseous on the boat ride out, and 2 of us got sick.
I’ve never really had a problem with sea sickness before. I did work on a sailboat without any issues, but I guess things are different when you’re out in the middle of the ocean with big waves tossing the boat around. I took some Dramamine as a precaution before we left, but to no avail. I made it about an hour before I was puking over the side of the boat. I wasn’t the only one, though. One of the guys got sick, too. Tim and I kept swapping spots in the vomit seat throughout the day. At least we both caught fish first. And the captain gave me props for still smiling even though I was sick. After all, the whole trip was my idea. I couldn’t let a little sea sickness ruin it for everyone.
I’m not sure what a successful fishing trip looks like, but aside from the vomiting, I’d say ours was a success. We caught 7 fish between the 6 of us; 2 barracuda, which we threw back, a blackfin tuna, a king mackerel, 2 smaller mackerel, and a white marlin. I have more fish than I’ll ever be able to eat, but from what we’ve cooked up so far, it’s been delicious. Maybe I shouldn’t give up on my charter fishing boat dream just yet…

Good story. Except for the vomiting. That’s gross. Where’s your next post? Pet Rosco for me. And call me when you’re in town.
